This boat was designed by John Cherubini. John Cherubini was an important and admired American yacht designer during the 1970s. Cherubini grew up in the Delaware River area. In 1938 he studied naval architecture with the Westlawn program, and then worked
professionally as an aviation engineer. He and his brother started had a small boat shop that built small outboard runabouts, in the late 1950s and early 1960's. John also raced small sailboats, in a fleet that included Warren Luhrs. When Luhrs started Hunter Yachts in 1973, he asked John Cherubini to design the first Hunter, the Hunter 25. Cherubini was Hunter's primary architect for a number of years. In addition to the Hunter 25, he also designed the 27, 30, 33, 36, 37, and 54. Other notable designs include the Essex 26, the Raider 33, and a number of successful powerboats.
Disclosure- This boat had a bilge pump failure a couple months ago and sank in its slip- she was raised in a few hours. The shaft packing was replaced and a new bilge pump installed. The boat is currently in a slip at Holiday Harbor Marina, San Pedro. The marina is beautiful and
Engine- The 1cylinder Yanmar was replaced a couple years ago with a 2 cylinder Yanmar 2QM15. When the engine was installed, we replaced all the hoses (intake and exhaust) and hull fittings. The motor runs very well and a shop manual is included. The following work has been completed on the engine after the boat was raised:
starter was professionally rebuilt ($125), alternator was professionally rebuilt ($125), engine and transmission were both pickled with diesel and flushed several times with approved oil, new transmission fluid, new engine oil and filter, fuel tank was flushed, belts were replaced. The engine runs very well. Some of the wiring contacts have suffered from salt exposure and will need to be attended to. Cutting an inch from each wire and replacing the connector will probably suffice. There are 2 new marine batteries on board.
Interior- We did a lot of work on the teak doors and drawers. The ugly knobs were removed because they snagged your clothes as you walked by them. We replaced the knobs with a ¾" hole and rounded the edges with a router- they look good. We recently replaced the wall covering with indoor/outdoor carpet (navy blue). The cushions are in decent shape. I added a custom cabinet over the chart table to house the stereo and radio; both need to be replaced now. I also installed two speaker boxes. The chart table has a custom touch with a local chart covered in resin saying "Ships are the nearest things to dreams that hands have ever made" . The cabin lights were replaced a few weeks before the boat sunk and might need some attention due to salt exposure. We also replaced all the 110v wiring in the boat before she went down. We used good quality tinned wire and used heat shrink tubing on all the connectors. The current condition of the wiring is unknown. We have a new shore power connection in the boat but have not installed it yet.
Hull- We replaced all the opening ports on the boat a couple years ago ($100+ per port). They all function properly and seal tightly. The main salon windows were cracking. We replaced the port one with ¼" shaded lexan. The lexan was sealed to the hull with marine grade adhesive and fastened every few inches with stainless steel crews. The starboard panel is in the boat but is not installed. All the through-hull fittings and valves were replaced a few years ago when the boat was last hauled out. During the last haul out, there were a couple of very minor blisters (smaller than a dime). We also replaced the fresh water fill and fuel fill fittings. The dodger plastic was replaced last summer and is clear. Some of the canvas was torn when she was raised, but could be repaired with a little attention.
Additional Items- Included with the sale is 2010 PVC inflatable dingy and cover. I bought it new but never registered it because it wasn't required. Alaso is included a mid 80's 5-hp Nissan outboard than needs the carb cleaned. There is also a single kayak. There are plenty of life jackets onboard, two anchors, and many other items. . .. . ..
Sails- There are several sails on the boat. The main is in new condition but was cut down from a larger sail to fit this boat. It might need some minor alterations and has no reef points. The condition of the other sails is unknown.
General- The boat is quite sound in general but will need a bunch of minor things (typical of any boat). It has a good hull and the fin keel is lead. The engine is in good shape and runs very well. We spent a lot time, energy, and money on this boat. Frankly, we love the boat but don't have the time to invest in it.
